Unless you've been under a rock for the past few hours, you've undoubtedly heard the news: in order to defend Melania Trump's plagiarism of a 2008 Michelle Obama speech, an RNC spokesman attempting to make a point about how common the phrases supposedly are used a quote from "Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?" Welcome to American politics in 2016.
The quote in question comes from RNC chief strategist Sean Spicer and attempts to draw parallels between two comments, seemingly out of context: ""Melania Trump said, 'the strength of your dreams and willingness to work for them.' Twilight Sparkle from 'My Little Pony' said, 'This is your dream. Anything you can do in your dreams, you can do now,'"
Spicer of course was quoting the scene where Twilight compels the residents of Ponyville in their literal dreams to band together to fight the Tantabus. However, in order to defend Melania Trump, Spicer chose to go for the horsefucker route in an attempt to convince people that there was no plagiarism.

With the election just months away, one can only wonder if a newcomer, Twilight Sparkle, will manage to make some inroads and present herself as a viable candidate. Given that the level of discourse is now on her level, a magical talking princess pony might be a realistic option for American voters. Meanwhile, Faust, fresh from her own recent controversies, seemed to relish in the attention. Strong as well had statements:
"Lovin' this!"
She was less happy about it
Regardless of ones politics, the fact that Twilight Sparkle is now recognized by a major political party and used to defend statements of a presidential candidate can only lead us to one question as a country: "How the fuck did we get here?"
